There are a wide variety of after-school clubs and activities are available for students. Some of these extra-curricular programs have a fee, and others do not. Students are encouraged to check with their 1st period teacher or activity/club sponsor for more information. Here is a partial listing of the sponsored clubs and activities:
1. Student Council
Middle School Student Council supports Relay For Life and many other school activities.
During the school day, students in all grades are offered the opportunity to participate in band and/or chorus. These programs meet during a student’s study hall period. This is a graded class, and the grades are averaged for honor roll status.
3. Washington DC Trip
This is an 8th grade, 3 day 2 night trip to our nation’s capital and the battlefield at Gettysburg during the end of May. See Mr. Wesley for more information.
4. Writing Club
The student newspaper club meets every week on Thursdays throughout the school year and is responsible for the printing of our school paper. The newspaper focuses on news events and features from in and around the school. It also includes information about the clubs and athletic teams as well as promotes drawings and comics by the students. It is open to any student in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grades who displays a willingness to write, gather information, be creative, and contribute to the school newspaper. Please see Mrs. Rice or Ms. Iversen for more information.
5. Art Club
Art Club is a year-long after-school activity for all Northwood students who are interested in Art! Art Club will begin meeting every Tuesday, beginning September 17, from 3:30-4:30 in the art room. As of now, there is no fee to join Art Club. In addition to working on individual projects, Art Club also helps create artwork for school-wide activities such as our Veteran's Day assembly, Red Ribbon/DARE week, and the school musical. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Rice.
This year Northwood's Spring Musical will be Snow White Goes West. Auditions for this production will be held on February 25th and 26th. Rehearsals will be after school until 5:30pm starting on March 3rd. It takes a lot of talent to have a successful musical production. In addition to cast members we need a number of students willing to work behind the scenes; set designers, painters, light tech, sound tech, production coordinators, and stage hands.
7. Outdoor Club
Go green” “Power Hours” “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”. Conservation is a must for our future. However, students will not care for their environment unless they learn an appreciation for it. Our goal is to teach students about their environment, along with giving them fun outdoor activities to make them want to preserve it. Meetings are held 3:45-4:45pm Thursdays. Check us out.
