Northwood Team Excels at State Robotics Tournament

Congratulations to the Northwood Middle School Back Street Birds!  The ten-member team of students from the Northwood Challenge Corps program earned several top awards at the annual Illinois FIRST LEGO League Northern State Championship. Sixty-four teams advanced from more than 30 qualifying tournaments to participate in the event which was held at Elgin Community College on January 14.

Facilities Review Update

Since October 2016, District 200 has gone through a process to review our facilities. This group is comprised of community members, administration, and staff, who have been engaged in a process of reviewing the current state of District 200 facilities along with examining future needs for facility utilization.

Attention Middle & High School Parents: Update your Home Access Information

During the Winter Break the District upgraded eSchool, our student information system.  As part of this upgrade, the website to access the Home Access Center was changed to improve security. Parents may use the same username and password to log-in.  Please remove any old bookmarks and replace it with the URL to new website.

Heart and Soul Starting at Northwood Middle School

Registration for Heart and Soul, the middle school program from Girls on the Run, begins at 10:00 a.m. on January 10, 2017 through February 15, 2017 at www.gotrnwil.org.  The Heart and Soul program creates a positive, structured space where girls can learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy, strengthen connections and develop life skills.  Teams of girls will meet Tuesdays and Thrsdays after school from 3:45 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. beginning the week of March 6th through May 21st.  Registration information can also be picked up in the Northwood office or from one of the Northwood coaches, Mrs. Braun, Ms. Canto, Ms. Harries or Mrs. Hurckes.  For more information, please contact the Northwood site coordinator, Heidi Nieman, at hnieman@wcusd200.org.

Updated Information About Facilities Review Committee

JLine Dance Crew Brings Message of Good Choices and Positive Attitudes to NWMS

Northwood students in the Rachel's Challenge group worked hard to earn the funds to sponsor a  very special program, and they weren't disappointed when the day finally arrived to see the fruit of their labor.  JLine Dance Crew performed for the entire school at a special assembly on October 17.  JLine is a troupe from New York City whose message focuses on making good choices, self-esteem and cultivating a positive atmosphere for everyone at school, and in the community.

Melinda Parrent Awarded IRTA Excellence in Education Grant

Melinda Parrent, Library Media Specialist at Northwood Middle School, has been awarded nearly $600 in grant money from the Illinois Retired Teachers Association Foundation (IRTAF). Melinda will use the funds to purchase a Padcaster and accessories, which will enable students to create web series. The Padcaster is an aluminum frame for the iPad that allows the use of lenses, microphones, and much more.

Marcy Buchanan is Illinois State Finalist for National Teaching Award

Northwood Middle School Science Teacher Marcy Buchanan has been named an Illinois State Finalist in the competition for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The PAEMST are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science teaching. Established by Congress in 1983, the PAEMST program authorizes the President to bestow up to 108 awards each year.

Woodstock Community Unit School District 200 will have 4 school board seats to be filled at the April 4, 2017 Consolidated Election. Candidates who are elected will fill four-year terms expiring in April 2021.
